The artist patiently and quietly at work at Out of the Box last October in Milan finished his striking work on the white FB/80 panels. La Marzocco commissioned Bicio to commemorate Josina Mughema Machel. Before her death at the very young age of 25, on April 7, 1971, Josina was jailed for having opposed colonial administration in Mozambique, played a key role in the nation’s struggle for independence, promoted the emancipation of African women and married the country’s first president. April 7 was declared National Women’s Day in her honour.
