The Honour Is Ours

July 29, 2014 in International

An opportunity came this way recently and, with good spirit and determination, what satisfaction to have played a role, albeit minor. La Marzocco was invited by the Human Needs Project to provide an espresso machine with grinder and training for the new Town Community Centre in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya, which opened its doors to the surrounding impoverished community on Thursday, July 24. Human Needs Project aims to “build physical infrastructures to ensure clean water and sanitation as well as social infrastructures where it is possible to provide information, skills training, access to credit and community ownership, thereby empowering people and transforming communities”.

La Marzocco would like to thank the Human Needs Project for having granted the opportunity, Mahlkoenig for the generous donation of the grinder, Agility Logistics for kind support, Dormans Coffee for having installed the machines and trained the Community Centre’s staff, and last but not least, staff at La Marzocco and Dormans who carefully monitored and guaranteed that all move forward successfully.

We are proud to include a brief description of the event last week by the Human Needs Project co-founder, Connie Nielsen: “. . . many people stood around in the cafe having cappuccinos in a state of slight disbelief. As the tours of the centre started up later that morning, Kiberans traipsed up the stairs with their La Marzocco paper cups of cappuccinos, almost incredulous that they would be treated to such a courtesy and honor . . .”

The honour is ours.
