WAC 2018 “Heads Down Under”…!

February 12, 2018 in Australasia, International

As the event sponsor, La Marzocco is very excited to shout out the location and month of the longed-for WAC 2018 edition! Read through their press release below to find a handful of “why’s” one should be taking part in this caffeinated happening.

“Pack your bathers*! The 2018 World AeroPress Championship heads Down Under in November.

The World AeroPress Championship has long been known as a “free-wheeling fuck-off” to the all-too-serious world of coffee competitions. In our 11th year it’s time to change things up (big time) and really step out from the shadows.

As far back as we can remember, the World AeroPress Championship final has tagged along to wherever that big and stuffy competition (which we won’t name) went. This meant that the location and date of our competition was always decided by someone else, and recently, some of those decisions have been pretty questionable.

Now that we’re older, a little bit wiser, but still free-wheeling A.F., we thought, screw that; it’s time to make sure we give our competitors and our hosts the best possible competition to be a part of (regardless of who’s paying off the big guys).

With that spirit in mind, we’re super stoked to announce that we’re breaking free, and taking it Down Under…  The 2018 World AeroPress Championship will be held in Sydney, Australia and hosted with legendary coffee roasters, Single O.

You can expect the Worlds to be held in early November, and an evolved version of our usual event. We’re all about community, so we’re stretching out to a two-day event including a true blue Aussie-style BBQ, and a lot more opportunity for competitors to actually hang out with other coffee lovers.

We don’t think you’ll need much convincing, but here are 5 reasons why you’ll want to take part in an AeroPress event, and win a trip to Sydney:

  1. It’ll be (almost) summer in November! IKR? It’ll probably be snowing where you’re from.
  2. Sydney has some of the best beaches the world has to offer.
  3. You’ll get to see for yourself if we actually ride kangaroos to school, or keep koalas as pets.
  4. Did we mention it’ll be (almost) summer??
  5. You can finally ‘put the shrimp (actually, a prawn) on the barbie’, and find out what  ‘budgie smugglers’ are.

Hosting applications are only open till March 31st, and we’ll be announcing the season on April 20th (so don’t miss out.)

* Bathers = swimsuit, trunks, togs, cossie, swimmers, beachwear.”
